Pescadero!

Alto Velo’s Pescadero Coastal Classic is one of the marquee local road races. The challenging course between La Honda and the Pacific Ocean and the numerous climbs make for selective and rewarding racing. And the finish on the top of Haskins Grade provides a logistical problem in getting the results to the race HQ for posting.

John Pliska of Alto Velo (promoter of Pescadero) approached ontheday.net at Cat’s Hill asking whether we might be able to help provide the race data logistics. John had already determined that Verizon was providing good coverage of the race HQ & finish areas – all he needed was a good way for the two to communicate.

Today, with AV providing the internet logistics (Verizon wireless mobile hotspots! [my AT&T iPhone had no 3G connection in either location]), Pescadero was another field test for ontheday.net. Multiple laptops were used at registration for data entry and then one moved to the finish line for results entry.

The results are up!

Calaveras TT

The next outing for OnTheDay.net is tomorrow at the Calaveras TT.

FFRT will have someone stationed with the officials at the finish line to enter everyone’s finishing time. You’ll see the results build up as riders complete the course!

iPad 3G rocked @ Cat’s Hill

Thanks to everyone who came up yesterday and said hello to us at Cat’s Hill registration. It was a reminder of how busy things are at registration, especially in the dreaded early rush.

This was a great learning experience for us of what is good and bad on the data entry side of OnTheDay.net. Rest assured that when we are out of beta, OnTheDay.net will have had its operation fully streamlined by our field-testing.

Those who were paying attention saw me putting a brand new iPad 3G though its paces doing the data entry. It was worked hard and worked flawlessly. It’s an excellent piece of kit.

And finally, a word of thanks to Lisa Hern (promoter of Cat’s Hill) for inviting us to beta-test OnTheDay.net at Cat’s Hill after our first field test at the Altamont TTT. The ability to test our software for real greatly helps our development.
